Geographic Focus

The Hitchman Charitable Trust makes grants to 501(c)3 organizations in Washington state with a focus on the greater Seattle area. The Hitchman Charitable Trust Committee will not review applications from outside the Trust’s geographic scope.

Application Deadlines

Grant Application deadlines are February 28 and August 31. Applications must be received or postmarked no later than the deadline date to receive consideration by the Foundation. We ask that organizations limit themselves to one application per year.

Completing the Application Form

Please type answers to each question within the space provided only. Do not extend the response onto a separate sheet. We strongly encourage you to be as concise as possible in your answers. The selection committee reviews numerous applications and, as a result, would prefer to see figures as opposed to anecdotes.

Incomplete applications may not be considered until all requirements have been met. A legally authorized representative must sign the original application.

Preparing Additional Required Documents

Attach single copies of the following to the original application only:

• Current Financial Statement
• Detailed Agency Budget
• Detailed Project Budget
• List of Officers and Board Members
• Copy of IRS 501(c)(3) Tax Exemption Determination Letter*
• Descriptive brochure(s) related to funding request, if available

*If you submit an application along with a Tax Exemption Determination Letter in another name, you must also provide satisfactory documentation as to your connection with the name on that Tax Exemption Letter. If there has been a name change or the advance ruling period has expired, further documentation is also required.

Submitting Your Completed Application

Submit the original plus four copies of the completed application form with a brief cover letter to the address listed below. Double-sided printing is acceptable. Applications must be received or postmarked no later than the deadline date to receive consideration by the Foundation.
